January 2010 will mark the seventh annual
observance of National Stalking Awareness Month, a month dedicated to educating
the public about the serious and often deadly crime of stalking. Stalking,
which effects nearly 1.4 million people annually, generally refers to harassing
or threatening behavior that an individual engages in repeatedly, such as
following a person, appearing at a person's home or place of business, making
harassing phone calls, leaving written messages or objects, or vandalizing a
person's property.
This year the theme is Stalking: Know
It. Name It. Stop It. It challenges communities to combat this dangerous
crime by learning more about it and taking action. Following are resources and
art work that you can use to spread awareness about the crime of stalking. Most
are recently updated resources from the National Center for Victims of
Crime/Stalking Resource Center.
