Laura Berry Berman

Laura has served as the Executive Director of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence since 1994. Previously, she served four years as the Director of the Madison County Victim Advocacy Program in Anderson, IN, and one year as an Indiana probation and restitution officer. She has served on the Anderson Mayor's Commission on Domestic Violence and the Chemical People Task Force. She is the co-founder of the Indiana Resource and Training Institute on Violence Against Women, the prototype of our present Resource Center. The Resource Center, a first-of-the-kind library, provides technical assistance, standardized statewide cirricula, and a lending library of books, videos, and training materials. She is a certified Law Enforcement Instructor and has conducted several domestic violence trainings for the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police, the Indiana Sheriff's Association and the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. She facilitates workshops for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center/ Violence Against Women Office National DV Train-the-Trainer Project. She previously served as an adjunct instructor for Anderson University, teaching Victimology. She graduated from Ball State University with a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice and M.A. degree in Political Science and Nonprofit Management.

Kerry Hyatt Blomquist

Kerry Hyatt Blomquist is Legal Director for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence and an Adjunct Professor of Law at Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis, specializing in state and federal domestic violence law. She is the founding Executive Director and current Director of the Protective Order Pro Bono Project, a program now housed at the ICADV that provides pro bono legal assistance to victims of domestic abuse in Indianapolis, Indiana. A 1990 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis, Ms. Blomquist, a frequent speaker on the legal issues confronting domestic abuse survivors, is also the 2006-2008 Secretary of the Board of Managers of the Indianapolis Bar Association (IBA) and past Chair of the Women and the Law Division of the IBA. Ms. Blomquist is an appointed member of the IBA Diversity Taskforce and the IBA Legislative Committee. She is a fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Association and the American Bar Foundation. Ms. Blomquist is a frequent volunteer for the Homeless Project through the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Street Law Project through the IU School of Law-Indianapolis. She also serves on the Board of Heartland Pro Bono Council, is a member of the Speakers Bureau of the Indiana State Bar Association and was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States in March of 2006.

Caryn Burton

Caryn became an official staff member of ICADV after years of volunteer and committee work. Specifically, she has been active in organizing Annual Conference, the Tenderness Tour (now named Race Away From Domestic Violence), the 25th Anniversary Gala, as well as sitting on the Public Awareness committee. Caryn has also been an active member of the Domestic Violence Network of Greater Indianapolis, sitting on their Curriculum, Membership and Public Awareness committees. She began her fight against domestic abuse while still in high school, using her experiences as a survivor of a violent teen relationship to reach out and educate other young women. Caryn continued this work as a member of AmeriCorps and as an advocate with the Family Advocacy Center. Most recently, Caryn was the director of transitional housing with Quest for Excellence, Inc., where she was responsible for every aspect of managing three transitional housing programs.

Caryn is originally from Plymouth, Michigan, moving to Indiana just before her freshman year in high school. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Communication from Butler University in 1999. Caryn absolutely adores Butler University (Go Dawgs!!!) so much that she returned there for her graduate studies. She earned her Master of Science in School Counseling in 2007.

Harriet Clare

Harriet has been an activist and advocate for women for many many years. From 1982-1997, she owned and operated Dreams and Swords Bookstore, which provided information for women, and specialized in various types of abuse issues. Since closing the store in 1997, until the present, she has been the Director of the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence Resource Center, a project which houses an extensive library of materials dealing with violence against women, (and men and children) and provides information, statistics, and referrals to all residents of Indiana.

Born in Pottstown, PA, Harriet moved to Indiana in 1964, after receiving her BA in English Literature from Penn State. Music has always been an important part of her life; she enjoys singing with the Indianapolis Festival Singers.

Jennifer Hedlund

Jen is a graduate of Ball State University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and Criminology. She has worked as a domestic violence advocate for 7 years. She has been an advocate for the protective order program for 4 years. "The thing I love most about my job is empowering others," Jen said, "I enjoy listening to others and learning from others views of the world. I have learned to never assume anything about people because everyone's views of life and happiness are different."

Cynthia Lanane

Cindy has served as the Resource Development Director for the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Inc. since 1996 and in 2007 was named Associate Director. She began her interest in issues relating to domestic violence in 1980 when she served as a volunteer for the local women's shelter. Cindy continued work in this area as a member, and later President of the Board of Director's of Women's Alternatives, Inc., the domestic violence shelter in Anderson. From 1986 to 1991 Cindy served as the 1st Director of the Madison County Victim Advocacy Program located in the Prosecutor's office. Cindy also participated in the development of the nation's 1st Mayor's Commission on Domestic Violence, located in Anderson, and served as President of the commission the first 2 years. She participated in numerous crime victim awareness committees on a state and local level during the 1980's and 90's. Cindy has also served as an adjunct instructor for Anderson University, teaching Victimology.

Born and raised in Anderson, Indiana, Cindy graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Social Work.

Cindy has a strong interest in the political process and serves as member of the Anderson League of Women Voters, Madison County Women's Democrat Club, Women for O'Bannon, and the Madison County Roosevelt Kennedy Club. Over the years she has also assisted on many local community boards and committees. She also enjoys cooking and gardening in her spare time.

Janet Martinez

Janet, the Protective Order Pro Bono Project's bi-lingual advocate, graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Janet (pronounced (Jeannette) has been an advocate throughout the state; having worked for the Prosecutor's Office, Alternatives, Inc. in Anderson, the Neighborhood Alliance for Child Safety in Indianapolis and the YWCA in Fort Wayne. Janet said the advocacy field chose her and it is a perfect fit. Her more than four years in advocacy has granted her valuable knowledge in not only dealing with clients but also people as a whole. "I have learned never to assume or judge," Janet said.

Kelly McBride

Kelly began at ICADV in 2006 as an intern. After graduating in May 2007 with her Master of Social Work Degree from Indiana University, she began her career with ICADV as an advocate for the Protective Order Project. In her free time, Kelly enjoys traveling, reading and gardening.

Bridgett Morales

Bridgett Morales has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Purdue University. After college, Morales worked in radio and a domestic violence shelter and was also a police officer. Morales was the communications director for State Rep. Walter Roorda who brought Morales to the statehouse after he won re-election is 1992. After moving to Indianapolis, Bridgett worked for the Julian Center/Sojourner and the Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis. In recent years, Bridgett was a reporter for the Mooresville-Decatur Times and currently is a freelance reporter for the Mooresville and Plainfield Magazines. She and her husband are also licensed foster parents.

Linda Olvey

Linda Olvey joined ICADV in the summer of 2007 as our Program Services Director. Originally from Anderson, IN, Linda has Social Work degrees from Indiana State and Indiana University and comes to us with a wealth of DV-related experience and education. She has been a psychotherapist for the past 25 years in Indianapolis,(specializing in women's and relationship issues, trauma and crisis intervention), has experience as a consultant for Coburn Place Safe Haven and KidsFirst, and holds a seat on the Board of Directors of the Domestic Violence Network of Greater Indianapolis.

As a faculty member at the IU School of Social Work, Linda was responsible for Student Services and Admissions in their Graduate Program. When the opportunity arose, Linda jumped at the chance to develop and implement a Social Work Student Field Practicum within the Domestic Violence Unit of the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. Most recently, she directed the Foster Parent Training Program at The Villages of Indiana.

Her duties at ICADV include working with membership programs, Peer Review, the Batterers' Intervention Program, and supervising the Protective Order Project court advocates and volunteers.
