In an effort to combine the best services and
resources from each organization, the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic
Violence (ICADV) announced today it is merging with the Protective Order Pro
Bono Project of Greater Indianapolis (POPBP). The partnership is effective
immediately.
The merger has a bit of
connected history as well. ICADV Legal Director, Kerry Hyatt Blomquist,
previously served as the first Executive Director of the POPBP in 2001. She
will continue to provide emergency legal services to victims of domestic
violence during and after the merger and will oversee legal staff.
In addition to providing legal support,
the newly merged organization will provide referrals to domestic violence
service providers for individuals seeking protective orders. Linda Olvey,
long-time domestic violence activist in Marion County, will oversee this
segment of the project.
The mission of the Protective Order Pro
Bono Project (POPBP) of Indianapolis is "To provide, for low income victims of
domestic abuse, free legal services, including obtaining and enforcing orders
meant to protect them, and to educate the legal community about domestic
abuse."
The mission of ICADV is the elimination of
domestic violence through providing public awareness and education, advocating
for systemic and societal change, influencing public policy and allocation of
resources, educating and strengthening Coalition members and promoting the
availability of quality comprehensive services.
