The ICADV Legal Resource Project is a new
project which is designed to help fill the legal needs of domestic violence
victims in Indiana. The overall goal of this project is the development of a
comprehensive legal advocacy and representation system that will assist victims
of domestic violence throughout Indiana. A major component of this project is
to provide centralized legal resources for domestic violence service providers,
prosecutors, victims, legal aid centers, and others who assist domestic
violence victims. The legal information and links found on this website are
just one way of providing these resources.
Other legal resources and assistance may be
found in the ICADV library or by
contacting the staff attorney
at ICADV.
The Legal Resource Project of the ICADV
offers the following services:
- Legal technical assistance to
providers, attorneys, government agencies and others who assist victims of
domestic violence. Assistance may be accessed by
e-mailing the Legal Director
at ICADV or for technical assistance at
kblomquist@violenceresource.org
during business hours.
- Training on legal issues and
Continuing Legal Education (CLEs) may be offered (depending on the
topic).
- Legal resources on domestic violence
issues are available and are being increased. Printed materials are available
through The Resource Center housed at ICADV.
Other resources are listed on this Web site.
- Emergency representation (within
time and distance constraints). Requests for this assistance should be by
domestic violence service providers after carefully screening the client and
evaluating the emergency level of the legal need.
- A collaboration and referral system
between the Indiana Pro Bono Commission and ICADV (under
development)
- A list of
legal assistance providers and the assistance they offer is being developed
and is now available for use in referring domestic violence victims in need of
legal services.
The goals of the Legal Resource Project
are:
- To provide legal technical
assistance to domestic violence service providers, attorneys, and government
agencies.
- To provide statewide training that
focuses on specific domestic violence legal issues to service providers,
attorneys, and others who interact with victims of domestic violence.
- To provide centralized legal
resources for domestic violence service providers prosecutors, victims, legal
aid centers, and others who assist domestic violence victims.
- To provide emergency legal
assistance to low-income victims of domestic violence.
- To collaborate with the Indiana Pro
Bono Commission to link domestic violence legal services with the 14 Pro Bono
Committees in Indiana.
- To develop a network of pro bono
attorneys with expertise in working with clients who have domestic violence
legal issues.
- To provide assistance with the
development of public policy initiatives that directly affect domestic violence
victims.
